Spare a thought for the Stormtroopers

Am I the only one who has concerns for the Stormtroopers of the empire in the Star Wars universe?

Ok, so the Sith are bad. Emperor Palpatine also known as Darth Sidious was the pinnacle of bad.

Count Dooku and Darth Vadar were less bad. I get the impression that Count Dooku may have actually been a true believer in the plans of Palpatine to save lives and took the often dangerous view of a little bad is worth it for the greater good.

We then come to the the Stormtroopers.

So we had the clones early on, fair enough I can just about stomach the notion that the clones were bread for war and all died as a result of devious politics.

We then move on to the original period, I don’t think they are clones anymore, and there is the most recent films’ troopers (episodes 7 to 9), are they slaves conscripted with little to no choice. Brainwashed and manipulated to make them (in)effective killing machines.

Yet when the death star was destroyed and the multiple star ships are destroyed, don’t tens of thousands of personal who are being forced to serve also perish?

I could be completely wrong and the Stormtroopers are as evil as Boba Fett (oh no wait – he went camping in the desert and became good) or Jabba the Hutt in which case fair enough.

But if as I suspect they are citizens/prisoners of an empire that forces them into servitude then lets spare them a thought…
